Recreation Leader I/II (Summer Camp - Elementary)

The James City County Parks & Recreation Department seeks an enthusiastic individual with great leadership and customer service skills. Must demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment and organize and conduct a variety of fun activities such as sports, games, and arts and crafts for children ages 5 - 12 in the summer camp program.
Responsibilities:
- Planning and leading daily group activities to include group management.
- Safe supervision of youth; maintaining site and sound on location.
- Record keeping, daily documentation and paperwork.
Requirements:
- Work requires some knowledge of child growth/development, safety and health practices, and experience working with children in a recreational, educational, or state licensed day care program setting.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, children, parents, and coworkers.
- Must have some experience working with children of different ages and abilities. Work schedule times may vary depending on site placement.
- Must possess or be able to obtain within sixty (60) days of hire, certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Professional Rescuers (Infant, Adults, and Child).
- The average work schedule is Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m.– 6:00 p.m. Staff may be asked to work 6-8 hr. shifts each day, but not to exceed 28 hrs. per week. Schedules can be flexible.
- Post-offer criminal history, sex offender, fingerprints and Child Protective Services registry checks conducted. Drug screen and tuberculosis test required.
